Xanthosoma 'Lendenii' | Angel's Wing
Live Indoor Plant | Native to Central + South America | Tropical Aroid | Statement Plant

The leaves are the size of a dinner plate. The white veins glow.

Xanthosoma lindenii 'Magnificum' — commonly sold as Xanthosoma 'Lendenii' — is one of the most visually dramatic aroids available for indoor cultivation. Large, arrow-shaped leaves in deep green carry a network of bright white veins that radiate from the central midrib outward in a pattern that reads as almost luminous against the dark leaf surface. The contrast is immediate and specific: not subtle, not quiet, but not aggressive either. A plant that earns its placement in a room by being genuinely worth looking at.

Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, it grows in the warm, humid understory where filtered light and consistent moisture are the norm. Indoors, it asks for the same: bright indirect light, consistent watering, and humidity above what most homes provide without intervention. It is not a beginner plant. It communicates its needs clearly through its leaves — drooping when thirsty, yellowing when overwatered, browning at the tips when the air is too dry — and rewards the right conditions with rapid, dramatic growth.

The common name Angel's Wing comes from the shape of the leaves: broad, pointed, and slightly cupped, with the two basal lobes spreading outward like wings from the central stem. Each new leaf unfurls from a central sheath, emerging pale and brightening as it matures.

A note on toxicity: Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. Sap can irritate skin — wash hands after handling.

Product details:

  • Large, upright aroid; leaves grow to 12–18" indoors with good conditions
  • Bright indirect light; avoid direct sun which scorches the leaf surface
  • Keep soil consistently moist; allow slight drying between waterings but do not let dry out completely
  • High humidity essential (60%+); mist regularly or use a humidifier
  • 65–85°F | keep from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F
  • Toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested

Care notes: Well-draining potting mix with added perlite. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Fertilize monthly at half strength during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep the surface clean and stomata clear. Repot every 1–2 years as the plant grows.

Why we love it:

  • White veining on deep green — one of the most dramatic leaf patterns available in an indoor plant
  • Arrow-shaped leaves with spreading basal lobes — the Angel's Wing form is specific and architectural
  • Rapid growth under good conditions — a plant that visibly rewards attention
  • Each new leaf unfurls from a central sheath — the emergence is its own event
  • One of the more unusual aroids in the collection; less common than Monstera or Anthurium but equally rewarding

Native Manor Note: The Xanthosoma contributes to the rooms it lives in through consistent transpiration from its large leaf surface — adding meaningful humidity to dry interior air throughout the day. For a plant this visually specific, the practical contribution almost feels secondary. But it's there: a large, actively growing aroid at a bright window is humidifying, photosynthesizing, and improving the air quality of the room it occupies every hour it's there. The Angel's Wing earns its placement on aesthetics alone. The rest is a bonus.
